Violence is a public health crisis in the United States. As the primary location where violently injured individuals seek care, hospitals are uniquely positioned to assist in breaking cycles of violence.

The Institute for Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis, BJC HealthCare, Saint Louis University, and SSM Health, together recently created a program—Life Outside Violence (LOV)—designed to break the cycle of violence in St. Louis.

After achieving some initial success, leaders of LOV have enlisted the Cordell Institute to evaluate the program and make recommendations for best practices.
